Achmelvich Cottage

Customer: Royal Dornoch

Services: Roofing

Date: 2026

Project Description

Located on Scotland’s exposed north-west coast, Achmelvich Cottage required a roofing system capable of withstanding wind, driving rain and salt-laden air while retaining the character of one of the area’s original coastal cottages.

What We Did

Following technical consultation with ICB Waterproofing, an Alwitra EVALON® VSK 1.2mm self-adhered single ply membrane was selected for the project.

To achieve the appearance required by the architect, our team developed a bespoke installation approach. Rather than laying the membrane horizontally, it was installed vertically so that the welded laps could be positioned beneath the standing seam profiles and hidden from view.

This required careful setting out and accurate alignment of each membrane sheet to ensure the standing seam profiles remained straight and consistent across the finished roof.

The completed system provides a clean, traditional standing seam appearance while benefiting from the durability, flexibility and weather resistance of a modern single ply membrane.

The result is a roof that complements the original character of Achmelvich Cottage while providing long-term protection against the demanding coastal conditions of Scotland’s north-west coast.
