The Falls of Shin Lairg is an area in the North of Scotland which has become very popular through the years where people congregate to see the salmon leaping the falls in an attempt to reach their spawning grounds. The new build was developed with the areas salmon interest in mind, whereby the total structure was in the shape of a fish

What We Did

The Falls of Shin Lairg is an area in the North of Scotland which has become very popular through the years where people congregate to see the salmon leaping the falls in an attempt to reach their spawning grounds.

This eventually led to a visitor centre being built by Harrods entrepreneur Al Fayed, which unfortunately burnt to the ground in 2013.

The Kyle & Sutherland Development Trust recently commisioned the new centre be re-built to a challenging design by William Gray Construction Ltd and designed by CH Architecture.

Macleod Roofing Ltd was the approved contractor for the proposed roofing system and was the appointed roofing contractor.

The last building on the site, the cold store was finished early this year. The building now hosts a very popular Mac & Wild 60 seat restaurant & gift shop.

The new build was developed with the areas salmon interest in mind, whereby the total structure was in the shape of a fish.

The chosen roof covering was ICB,s Alwitra single ply membrane on 160mm thermal insulation board and Eva -vap self-adhesive vapour control layer.

The external trims, fascias and soffit linings were manufactured by ICB Fabrications and were an integral part of the overall appearance, these were specifically designed and manufactured for this project.

The complicated and challenging design was overcome with the willingness to see the project through from The Principal contractors team, the Architect, the roofing contractor and the manufacturer who all pulled together in some extreme wintry conditions, the end result is a stunning overall appearance of a new build which sits comfortably in the rugged surroundings of Lairg.
