Date: 2025

Project Description

As Royal Dornoch Golf Club approached its 150th anniversary, construction began on a new £13.9 million clubhouse overlooking the Dornoch Firth.

Working alongside Morrison Construction, Macleod Roofing was responsible for the natural slate roofing works across the new building.

What We Did

Before slating began, a treated roofing batten system supplied by SIG Roofing was carefully set out across the roof, together with a breathable membrane, mechanical slate fixings, lead flashings and associated components.

Our team then installed approximately 16,250 CUPA H3 natural slates across the pitched roof areas.

With the roof visible from multiple elevations, maintaining consistent coursing, accurate margins and clean detailing was essential throughout the installation. Regular inspections were carried out as work progressed to ensure a high-quality finish across the entire building.

Completed in September 2025, the finished roof complements the clubhouse’s sandstone elevations and provides a traditional appearance suited to its Highland surroundings.

The use of natural slate also provides the longevity and weather resistance required for a building in such an exposed position overlooking the Dornoch Firth.
