Macleod Roofing Shortlisted for Three Scottish Roofing Awards
We’re delighted to share that Macleod Roofing has been shortlisted in three categories at the 2026 NFRC Scottish Roofing Awards. Three Projects Recognised Across Three Roofing Categories Three of our projects have been recognised across three different roofing disciplines: Royal Dornoch Golf Club Finalist in the Green Roofing category. Tigh-Nan-Ubhal Finalist in the Heritage Roofing category. Achmelvich Cottage Finalist in the Single Ply category. To have three projects shortlisted is a fantastic recognition of the range of work our team delivers across the Highlands. From heritage roofing that respects the character and history of a property, to modern single ply systems and green roofing solutions, each project required a different approach, specialist skills and close attention to detail. Recognition for the Macleod Roofing Team The NFRC Scottish Roofing Awards celebrate roofing and cladding talent from across Scotland, with projects judged on areas including workmanship, difficulty, problem-solving, health and safety, aesthetics and environmental qualities. For our team, being shortlisted across three separate categories makes this year’s recognition particularly special. Sandy Macleod, Director at Macleod Roofing, said: “To have three of our projects shortlisted across three different categories is a great achievement for the whole team. Each one presented its own challenges and required different skills, so it’s brilliant to see the quality of the work recognised by the industry. A lot of people contribute to delivering these projects, both on site and behind the scenes, and this recognition belongs to all of them.” Scottish Roofing Awards 2026 The winners will be announced at the NFRC Scottish Roofing Awards on 30 October 2026 at the Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow. We’re looking forward to the awards and wish all of this year’s finalists the very best of luck.
Macleod Roofing shortlisted for two Pitched Roofing Awards
Macleod Roofing has been shortlisted in two categories at the 2026 Pitched Roofing Awards, recognising both the quality of the company’s work and the progress of one of its youngest team members. The team’s work on the new Royal Dornoch Golf Club clubhouse has been shortlisted for Best Use of Slate for a Commercial Project, while apprentice Lewis Scobbie is a finalist for Young Achiever of the Year. Together, the two shortlist places reflect two things that matter greatly to Macleod Roofing: delivering work to the highest standard and investing in the next generation of the trade. Royal Dornoch Golf Club clubhouse Working alongside Morrison Construction and CUPA Pizarras, Macleod Roofing installed approximately 16,250 CUPA H3 natural slates across 650sqm of roof area. The slate was chosen to complement the clubhouse’s stone exterior and Highland setting, while also providing the durability needed for its exposed coastal location overlooking the Dornoch Firth. The project required careful planning, close coordination and a consistently high standard of workmanship across a large and highly visible roof. Young Achiever of the Year Lewis joined Macleod Roofing in April 2024 as a Roof, Slate and Tiling Apprentice and has quickly become a valued member of the team. He has progressed from supporting maintenance and access work to carrying out slating independently with minimal supervision, earning the trust of colleagues and site managers through his skill, reliability and attitude. Lewis has also been praised for his slating and leadwork, professionalism and commitment to health and safety, while his progress has already been recognised through Dundee and Angus College’s Apprentice of the Year award. To be recognised for both a landmark Highland project and the achievements of a young apprentice makes this a particularly proud moment for the whole team. One shortlist place reflects the standard of work being delivered today. The other reflects the future of the industry. View the full 2026 Pitched Roofing Awards shortlist
Macleod Roofing Apprentice Wins Apprentice of the Year Award
A 19-year-old apprentice from Inverness has been recognised for his dedication and work ethic after being named Apprentice of the Year at Dundee and Angus College. Lewis Scobbie, who works with Macleod Roofing while completing his apprenticeship through the CITB, received the award in recognition of his outstanding attitude, consistency, and commitment to learning. Lewis began his four-year SCQF Level 6 apprenticeship on 29 April 2024 and has already completed his second year of college work ahead of schedule. The award was presented following consistent feedback on Lewis’s approach both in the classroom and throughout his training. Patrick McCagh, Lecturer at Dundee and Angus College, said: “Lewis has demonstrated a strong willingness to develop his skills, always showing enthusiasm and a genuine desire to improve. Throughout the programme, he maintained a positive mindset and never complained, even when faced with challenges. “He is also highly supportive of others, regularly offering help to his peers and contributing to a positive team environment. His work ethic, attitude, and commitment to both his own development and the success of those around him made him a standout candidate for this recognition. He was a pleasure to teach.” Gillian McKenzie, Apprenticeship Development Officer at CITB, added: “Lewis shows the same level of commitment on site as he does in college. His attitude towards learning and improving is exactly what we want to see in apprentices coming into the industry, and he continues to build on that as he progresses through his training.” Alan Campbell, Operations Manager at Macleod Roofing, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Lewis and one we’re all really proud of. To complete his second year ahead of schedule shows the level of effort he’s putting in day to day. “At Macleod Roofing, we place a real focus on developing people and creating opportunities within the Highlands. Lewis is a great example of what can be achieved with the right attitude, and we’re looking forward to supporting him as he continues his career with us.” Macleod Roofing continues to invest in apprenticeships as part of its long-term commitment to developing skilled tradespeople across the Highlands, supporting both individual careers and the wider construction industry.
35 Years at the Heart of the Highlands: Macleod Roofing Launches Community Fund
For 35 years, Macleod Roofing has been a steady presence across Highland communities, repairing and building the roofs above them while supporting the people who live and work beneath them. Now, as part of its 35th anniversary year, the Inverness-based firm has launched a new Community Fund, turning decades of informal backing into a clear and lasting commitment to communities throughout the Highlands. Founded in 1990 by Sandy Macleod as a one-man operation in Golspie, the business has grown into a 60-strong team rooted in the Highlands. From community halls and schools to hospitals and commercial developments, its work spans towns and rural communities across the north and beyond. But alongside the roofs it’s repaired and built, Macleod Roofing has always backed its local communities, supporting youth teams and sports clubs, contributing to community fundraising events, and stepping in when organisations needed practical help. In recent years, that has translated into a donation to the Elsie Normington Foundation, funding for a new Highland Hospice support van, backing projects at Raigmore Hospital’s Children’s Unit through The Archie Foundation, and delivering pro bono roofing works for community groups across the region, including the Inverness Sea Cadets. Now the team’s new Community Fund brings that approach together under one banner, providing a straightforward route for local charities, non-profits, schools and community groups to apply for financial support, materials, practical roofing assistance or promotional backing, with an emphasis on projects that will deliver meaningful and lasting benefit for people living in the Highlands. And for Sandy Macleod, Managing Director of Macleod Roofing, the milestone anniversary felt like the natural moment to formalise something that has always been part of the business. Commenting on the fund, he said: “For 35 years, we’ve worked in Highland communities every single day. We’ve grown because local people trusted us and supported us. “We’re not a national corporation with endless resources, but we are incredibly proud of the difference we’ve been able to make in our own communities. My hope is that the fund will help ensure the support we give is shared fairly and reaches the projects that need it most. “Ultimately, it’s about making sure we continue to stand behind the communities that have stood behind us. And if there’s a project that’s making a difference locally, we want to play our part, however big or small.” Adding to this, as part of its Armed Forces Covenant commitment, the company will continue offering pro bono or discounted roof repairs each year for veterans and military families facing hardship across the region. And to mark its 35-year anniversary and the launch of the Community Fund, Macleod Roofing has also unveiled a newly sign-written anniversary van, which will travel across towns and villages throughout the Highlands in the months ahead. Established in 1990, Macleod Roofing is a leading, award-winning roofing specialist based in Inverness. Employing more than 60 staff, the company delivers domestic, commercial and public sector roofing projects across Scotland and remains committed to investing in apprenticeships, workforce development and community initiatives throughout the Highlands. Macleod Roofing Strengthens Commitment to Armed Forces Community with Covenant Signing
Macleod Roofing, one of the Highlands’ most respected roofing firms, has reinforced its commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community through the formal signing of the Armed Forces Covenant. On Tuesday, November 18, Ray Watt, Defence Relationship Manager for the Highland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association, led the presentation at Macleod Roofing’s headquarters. The event marked the company’s official recognition of the vital contribution that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and military families make to both business and community life. By signing the Covenant, Macleod Roofing has joined thousands of UK employers in committing to ensure fair treatment and equal opportunities for those connected to the Armed Forces. The agreement reflects the company’s long-held belief that the skills and values gained through military life – discipline, teamwork and resilience – are a natural fit within its industry. Sandy Macleod, Managing Director of Macleod Roofing, said: “We’ve always been proud to support the Armed Forces community, but signing the Covenant is about taking that a step further. “Many of the qualities that make great roofers are the same as those developed in service – reliability, leadership and a strong sense of teamwork. We want to make sure veterans, reservists and their families feel valued and supported here.” The company’s commitment includes guaranteed interviews for veterans who meet essential job criteria, flexibility for reservists balancing training or deployment, and support for military spouses and partners through adaptable working arrangements. Macleod Roofing also plans to offer discounted or pro bono roof repairs for veterans or military families across the Highlands, alongside continued backing for Armed Forces charities and remembrance events. Ray Watt, Defence Relationship Manager, said: “Macleod Roofing’s pledge demonstrates genuine leadership in recognising the contribution of the Armed Forces community. It’s encouraging to see a company so rooted in its local area stepping forward to make that support official.” With over 30 years of experience serving communities across the north of Scotland, Macleod Roofing continues to invest in people and opportunities that make a difference. The signing of the Armed Forces Covenant is the latest in a series of commitments that underline the firm’s belief in inclusive employment and community care. “We’re lucky to live and work in a place that values service and community spirit,” added Sandy. “This Covenant is a way for us to honour that spirit, to open our doors to those who’ve served, and to build stronger futures together.” Founded in 1990 by Sandy Macleod, Macleod Roofing has grown from a small local team into one of the north of Scotland’s most respected roofing contractors. More than three decades on, Sandy continues to lead the business with the same guiding principle that shaped its early years: that success and community responsibility go hand in hand. The company has established a strong reputation for quality workmanship, reliability and long-term client relationships, underpinned by a commitment to supporting the communities it serves. From fundraising for local charities to backing youth organisations and sports clubs, Macleod Roofing continues to invest in projects that deliver real value across the Highlands and Moray.
